Elements are foundational. And they are different in different cultures.  We tend to think of them simply as Earth, Air, Fire and Water, just as they are in astrology.  But other cultures see Metal, Wood, Stone, Space or the Void, or Aether as elements.  And of course we have the periodic table of elements.
