Windows
For many years I have been creating a series called “Windows.” I live Chicago, a city of great architecture, and have become an obsessive observer of windows as characteristic urban features. Walls of windows with their reflections, architectural details, and coverings are a ready made, constantly changing feast of pattern.
Windows function as the metaphorical structure of my work. Looking in/looking out. Open/shut. Letting in or keeping out the light, the emotion, the connection. The layers of time and history, human endeavor and natural forces, shadowed and mirrored by buildings and their windows. Color and stitching provide the emotion and surface reality, but the underlying skeleton is the layering of windows, the “historical” context of place, time and change.
